Beach Season
Inspired by an eye-opening, coming of age trip to Thailand, Sam Avant began the Beach Season project in 2014 with the release of the EP, “Internet Evening” – which explored the soundcloud era, chillwave and alt-pop genres entwined with Sam’s airy and emotion driven vocals. The record was released on hometown label “Close to Modern” (Calgary). Soon after, half-Thai friend and collaborator Simon Blitzer, who was raised in Bangkok, joined the project.
The duo’s first major label release came as an EP in 2016 titled, “Libra Year”, on Universal Music Canada. After signing on for a subsequent record deal, Sam and Simon found themselves in new, exciting environments writing their next record – working with world class songwriters and producers in London, Toronto, New York and Los Angeles. Their 2018 release with UMC, “Time & Place” was a bold R&B and Indie Electronic EP which reflected their travels and experiences during the writing process.
Departing from the label as of 2019, Beach Season continues to strive to express themselves as independent artists and tastemakers. Their latest 2022 Mini-EP, “Mornings”, made in collaboration with composer Charles August, featured live, orchestral compositions – an enterprising, progressive shift in their musicality whose lyrics told stories of existentialism, isolation and growth during the 2020 pandemic. Recently, the band has been collaborating with Grammy Award winning Engineer and long-time friend Matt Blank on their productions; with a goal to realize their debut album; a long-awaited accumulation of the ten years of collaboration, evolution, and creation – the journey that makes up the duo’s signature sound.
