What begins as a question slowly becomes a statement as the song “This Is What You Wanted” follows the painful transition from searching for answers after a breakup to finally accepting what has happened. The song started as a heart-wrenching breakup poem written by drummer Connor Brooks and brought to life vocally by singer Troy Gilmore. At the core of the song is a simple shift in perspective: “Is this what you wanted?” eventually becomes “This is what you wanted.” That shift in the lyrics represents the slow and agonizing journey through heartbreak, and finally accepting that you may not get the answers you were so desperately looking for.
