20th ANNIVERSARY LIMITED-EDITION VINYL
ARMCHAIR CYNICS and 604 RECORDS are celebrating 20 years of music with the release of a limited-edition “Killing The Romance” vinyl LP. This collector’s item features an exclusive pressing of “Killing The Romance” including 2 previously unreleased tracks and 2 live in-studio tracks.
“The opportunity to release an album on vinyl has always been a dream of mine and something I wish we had done back when “Killing The Romance” first came out on CD,” says Armchair Cynics bass player Aran Puritch. “That seemed like an impossibility until late last year when our label, 604 Records, reminded us about some previously unreleased material from the original recording sessions. This quickly turned into a series of activities including the creation of live performance videos from the 604 Sound Stage, digital releases of previously unreleased songs, and a special 20th Anniversary release of “Killing The Romance” which includes a new track recorded during the original studio sessions. We have had an incredibly fortunate journey with 604 Records as they provided (and continue to provide!) us with the support to create, record and release our music with a high attention to detail and quality. We are super excited as the new material and vinyl release become available later this year. We love it and hope our listeners will too.”
In addition to the vinyl LP, 604 Records has upgraded several of the band’s top music videos on a new section of the company’s YouTube channel devoted to classic 604 videos which have been upscaled to HD 4K quality. The upscaled videos will be re-released throughout the summer, starting with the band’s very first video “Bang” off their inaugural “Killing The Romance” album.
“When I signed the Armchair Cynics in 2004, I thought they were going to be a massive band. They had it all. An incredible singer who also wrote compelling, insightful lyrics about relationships and dreams and life. A guitar player skilled in writing and production who helped shape the songs. And a great band who gave it all to these songs, both in the studio, and live,” remarks 604 Records president Jonathan Simkin. “Both “Bang” and “Coalmine” from the debut LP “Killing The Romance” received substantial airplay across the country. But as often happens, external factors intervened, and a huge music career was not to be. This was a band who deserved more. But 20 years later, we are left with a rich legacy of recordings like the unreleased single “A Moment Like This,” a fully produced outtake from the “Killing The Romance” sessions. Discovering this track was like discovering buried treasure. None of us could even remember why the song has been left off the EP.”
