The Mohrs
Toronto rock ‘n’ roll band The Mohrs owe their existence in part to an ephemeral piece of Canadian TV. Back in 2011, the group’s members (lead vocalist and guitarist Jackie Mohr, guitarist Marc Girardin, drummer Max Trefler and bass player Greg Markham) were members of competing bands in the short-lived CBC reality show “Cover Me Canada” — Mohr and Girardin in Winnipeg were hopefuls Living in Red, while Trefler and Markham formed the rhythm section of the competition’s eventual champs Whosarmy.
Mohr said the experience ultimately kicked off a series of events that led to the formation of The Mohrs, including the group’s ongoing relationship with acclaimed singer-songwriter and “Cover Me Canada” producer Hawksley Workman, who ended up producing and co-writing “Kings of Nowhere” with the band. Workman got in touch shortly after Living in Red were voted off the show.
