Masquerade is a deep and vulnerable reflection on getting older and losing your childhood innocence, packaged inside of a bold and triumphant indie-pop soundscape. Michaela is grappling with memories that jolted her from ignorance into the messy world of adult emotions ("I remember you yelling...Since then, I never saw you the same"). Embedded within this is hope: hope for tough relationships to transform, for growing up without growing cold, and for accepting her imperfect past in order to look forward.
