"I was house-sitting for a friend's parents who have a beautiful home with a piano. I don't get access to a real piano often and spent most of my days sitting on the bench, feeling like I was catching up with an old friend. Christmas Without You came to me really quickly, and was inspired by witnessing a slow loss and ultimate passing of a family member. I've been so fortunate to have grown up with a big family nearby—we often do holiday parties with 40+ people gathered together, singing carols. I wrote Christmas Without You to help process the grief that came from that loss and a bigger realization that getting older means losing loved ones and yearning for earlier childhood moments of togetherness."
