“Is there real love

underneath of

all the poison?”

“After Party” is a five song E.P. And an extension of the themes of the Pity Party. But this time it almost exclusively deals with heartbreak, infatuation and survival. It also takes some big swings musically so hopefully you’re willing to hold our hands and follow us to some unfamiliar territory.

“Rise And Shine” is like trying to pinpoint that kind of a moment where you find a kindred spirit where and when you least suspect it. And the whole thing wakes you up to what you’ve been missing. It’s sloppy and fun and cute. Kinda reminds me of an episode of girls or sex and the city. And it also is sort of feels like a “talkin’ ‘bout my generation” moment. With lines like “All of the lies were set in stone, none of us really cared”.

"My back’s against the wall” is definitely a zag for us. It was written in the UK in between tours. I went in with my acoustic wanting to write something like MGMT’s “The Youth” but I must haveb een feeling myself as I was cast in a movie based on a best selling novel the day before so what organically came out was something more like Prince and Justice and maybe LCD soundsystem. Especially once Mike, Clark and Cole got their hands on it, it really took off. It’s a Sexy and flirty and slightly slimy and cocky anthem for everyone who feels like a royal flush and a head rush and a boyfriend.

“Don’t Break My Heart” written in the UK on a day off with maybe me at my most Pete Wentz /Morrissey-bitter lyrically ever? Sleep deprived and musically leaning into the stiff angular new wave vibes I love so much. “Oh honey, what do you know honey, I was a nobody... you were right” sums up the vibe of the song. Like maybe I sucked but you being this mean is overkill. Stop hitting him he’s already dead. Also the screams at the end are a lot of fun.

“Like The Ocean” was co-written with frequent collaborator Parker Bossley. And I think it might catch a few people off-guard. Like maybe one of the only Hotel Mira songs I would ever describe as “chill”. It’s just sort of a beautiful surreal, for-lack-of-a-better-word psychedelic and water-y track. Like the ocean. Get it?

“Re: Valentine’s Day“ on February 14th 2019, I sat in my room crying, my heart was shattered. My career was tanking, my cat was dying and the person who I adored and had treated me best had decided that they needed to focus on themselves and end our fated kurt russell / goldie hawn union. I scrolled my phone and saw the imagery of what I didn’t have, and what I thought Iw ould never have. I would not have a trail of rose pedals leading to a candle lit bedroom with a love note on the pillow because I was damaged goods. I am the survivor of unspeakable things that made me defective and repulsive to myself and others. This song poured out of me as a result. One of the most personal songs I have ever written but I hope it gives hope and catharsis to the other people who feel like broken toys with their parts for sale. This song is out and so is my solidarity and love if you need it every valentine’s day going forward.
