I (Brett) heard the opening acoustic guitar line of this song in my dream one morning a couple years ago in late December/early January. And as I was brushing my teeth (without flossing) I couldn’t get that janky, El-Scorcho-by-Weezer-in-slow-motion type joint outta my head. I sat down with my trusty axe to figure out the chords and, it being almost/just recently the new year, started mumbling lyrics about how maybe this is the one where I get my life together (it wasn’t, but that’s another story for another DSP pitch). Just as quickly, Toxic Brett started trash-talking myself out of making such resolutions and both of us thought, hey, that’s kind of a fun concept for a song. The result is a real time, real annoying conversation with myself about our potential-to-outcome ratio mixed in with a little dissociation, hypochondria, dysmorphia, self-doubt and, our favourite, self-diagnosis. I high-fived myself and we got a beer.
