I had this title, “We Won’t Waste Wine!” sitting in my iPhone notes for years. I think Nolan’s fiancé, Liv, said it when the four of us were living together in Toronto during the pandemic and I thought, y'know what? We WON’T waste wine. Hilariously, her and Nolan are legitimately wine connoisseurs and me and Kirk will drink vinegar if there’s nothing else around the house. So for me, it’s a song about being a trashy wine guy and celebrating that with a bunch of people in a house party setting. For Nolan, it’s a song about how Kirk and I will drink his good wine when it’s gone bad. Even the lyric “poppin bottles off the top shelf”… my top shelf would be a 19 dollar bottle of Shiraz. And I want everyone to know there’s zero shame in that.
